Discovery Education - (SUBSCRIPTION) Stream thousands of educational videos to your class using this online tool.  Search by subject, grade, or keyword. Create online quizzes and assignments using videos, photos, documents contained in site.

WatchKnow - a free, non-profit site that includes over 20,000 indexed educational videos.  Videos are suggested and edited by other educators and instructors in a variety of fields. (Requires no registration but joining allows users to bookmark their favorite videos.)

PBS Videos - Free videos from your favorite PBS programs, including NOVA and Frontline.  (Most videos will have ads)

Brainpop - (SUBSCRIPTION) an educational website with hundreds of videos geared towards K-12 students.  See your school library media specialist for login information.

PBS Learning Media - your destination for easy, instant access to thousands of classroom-ready, digital resources including videos and interactives perfect for the StarBoard or SmartBoard, plus audio and photos, and even in-depth lesson plans. You can search, save, and share with ease. PBS LearningMedia™ is free for educators.


Audio/Sound Site

Soundzabound - (SUBSCRIPTION) an online, royalty-free music database that allows subsribers to download mp3 music for use in the classroom.  (Can be used to accompany PowerPoint presentations, photo stories, end of year digital yearbooks, etc.)  See your school library media specialist for login information.


Research/Reference Sites

SweetSearch - An excellent search engine designed for students.  Articles have been reviewed by peer educators and research experts.

SweetSearch4Me - The same search engine as above, but specifically designed for younger students.

World Book Online - World Book Encyclopedia in digital format.  Also includes additional multimedia, web links, periodicals, and interactive activities. Subscription based (see your school library media specialist for password information) and includes formats for young learners, middle level, as well as an advanced interface for older students.


Virtual Manipulatives

National Library of Virtual Manipulatives - Provides an extensive library of virtual math manipulatives.  Works well on the interactive StarBoards.

Reading A-Z - "Reading A-Z offers thousands of printable teacher materials to teach leveled reading, phonemic awarenessreading comprehensionreading fluency, alphabet, and vocabulary. The teaching resources include professionally developed downloadable leveled books, lesson plans, worksheets, and reading assessments." (K-5 only)

Raz Kids - For student use, this program provides online, leveled books as well as online quizzes.  Enables teachers to track student reading progress in fluency and comprehension (K-5 students only - must be set up by teacher) - Improve the student writing process by having students submit their work online.  Papers are checked against 14 billions webpages.  Includes a grammar check (middle and high school only) - Interactive gizmos and labs for grades 3-5 (science.)  Subscriptions only for science teachers in elementary, middle, and high schools. Use interactive gizmos to demonstrate science experiments in whole class instruction or assign activities to students to perform with individual student logins.

Moodle - Online classroom environment.  Post curriculum, hyperlink to websites, upload important documents/homework.  Post online forums for class discussion, assign homework to be uploaded to Moodle, create quizzes, questionnairres, polls and other interactive assignments. (Requires an account - email Jill Robinson for account set up and course creation.)

Edmodo - Free online classroom environment.  Visually similar to Facebook, Edmodo is an online social learning environment.  Post assignments, quizzes, upload important documents, create discussion forums.  (App also available for most tablet/smartphone devices.)
