~Getting Started with the new StarBoard program~

OPENING THE PROGRAM

  • Double-click the StarBoard icon on the desktop.  Select 'New' to open a blank StarBoard file.

ANNOTATING ON A WORD DOC, PDF, POWERPOINT, PICTURE, ETC.

  • Open the document you wish to use for annotation purposes.
  • Click on the 'File' menu and select 'Print.'
  • Change the printer drop-down menu to 'StarBoard Document Capture.'
  • Click the 'Print' button.
  • Document will now import into StarBoard!
  • NOTE: If a PowerPoint document, or any other document with multiple pages is imported, each page/slide imported will appear on separate StarBoard pages.
WRITING ON THE STARBOARD
  • FREE WRITING - Select a pen tool from the toolbar.  The icon with a pen surrounded by two shapes is the 'Intelli-pen' (snaps shapes and lines into place when writing), whereas, the plain pen icon is a regular pen tool.

INSERTING A NEW PAGE AND NAVIGATING THROUGH PAGES

  • ADDING A SECOND (THIRD, FOURTH...) PAGE - Click on the 'Insert' menu at the top.  Select 'New Page.'
  • NAVIGATING THROUGH ALL THE PAGES IN YOUR STARBOARD FILE - At the upper left and bottom right of your StarBoard you will see what looks like a 'doggy-eared' page flap. Bottom right flap will move you to the next page.  Upper left flap will move you to previous pages in your StarBoard file.
PRINTING A STARBOARD PAGE
  • Go to the 'File' menu and select 'Print.'  If there are certain pages you wish to print (as opposed to the entire StarBoard file,) make sure to specify the page or page range.
CLIPART AND INTERACTIVE FLASH ACTIVITIES
  • Click on the 'Gallery' tab located on the right hand side of the StarBoard page.  Click the arrow icon next to any folder to open more choice options.  Click on a topic to load the clipart below the list of folders.
  • To insert a picture, graphic organizer, or flash activity, click the blue arrow located below the image.  Select 'Insert Image' or 'Insert as a Background Image' (the latter is recommended when selecting a graphic organizer or another image to be used as a full background to annotate on.)
