
Writing Workshop
During the Writing Workshop there will be a focus on developing the 6 Traits of Writing, The Traits include; ideas, organization, sentence fluency, word choice, conventions, and voice.
Mini-lessons, independent writing, partnerships and conferences
The Mini-Lesson - Crafting - approximately 10 min.
Explicit instruction of writing strategies, spelling, and the mechanics of grammar they will need to use when students are writing. Teachers create models, shares mentor authors, creates anchor charts and demonstrates the writing process.
Composing Meaning - Independent Writing - approximately 30 min.
Students practice and reflect upon the writing strategies and skills taught during the craft session. They work independently on their writing pieces, confer with peer partner or teacher, revise/edit their work, record topics of interest in their Writer's Notebook, and/or conduct research on a chosen topic.
Reflection and Group Conversations - aaproximately 10 minutes
Students share their finished writing product, discuss how well a strategy helped them, share "aha moments" (new learning) they had and provide feedback to peers.
