BEHAVIOR
My major rule is respect.
* Respect yourself
* Respect other students
* Respect adults
* Respect your surroundings.
Students should be aware that poor behavioral decisions in Spanish class have consequences. The first time a student misbehaves, a warning will be given. Afterwards, for futher infractions of school and classroom rules, phone calls will be made home, detentions assigned, or office referrals will be completed if necessary.
Grading Policy
Your grade in Spanish will be based on a variety of work including classwork, homework, quizzes, tests, projects, and participation. All graded assignments will be returned in class for review and signed by parent. By doing so, students and their parents/guardians will be able to estimate an average grade at any time. Grades are also posted on PowerSchool and are updated frequently.
50% quizzes/tests - posted on the board and NY Learns site a week in advance
25% classwork and participation
15%homework
10%projects
Homework - la tarea
Homework is an important part of learning a language. It reinforces concepts taught and is helpful in preparation for tests and quizzes. Homework will be given almost every day since World Language is considered an academic course. While written homework may not be assigned every day, you will have a daily assignment to study current vocabulary, phrases, expressions, and verbs to maintain your language skills. All homework is posted each day on my website and on the board. Homework will be reviewed the following day in class to answer any questions students may have. Homework will be checked for completion to the best of their ability. Homework must be ready for the beginning of class, and no homework will be accepted late unless it is make-up work for an absence or it is pre-arranged.
Absences and make-up work
If you have been absent it is your responsibility to check for make-up work. This includes checking in with the teacher as soon as possible after you return. You will have one day to make up work for every day you are absent. If an assignment has been due while you were out, it is your responsibility to turn it in when you return. I am always willing to spend time explaining class lessons after school.
Extra Help
I am more than willing to help you if you are having difficulty with homework or other class assignments. I encourage you to seek help before you become overwhelmed. I am available on Mondays and Tuesdays AM, and Thursdays PM or by appointment.
