What is a simile?
A simile is a figure of speech that compares two unlike things using the words "like" or "as."  For example, the sentence Alyssa's eyes are as bright as a sparkling star is a simile because it compares Alyssa's eyes to a star using the word as. In addition, the sentence The wet dog smelled like rotting garbage is a simile because it compares the dog to garbage using the word like
