Mr. Zummo’s U.S. History Class

2012-2013

Course Description:

United States History and Government is a one year course, which will culminate with a N.Y. State Regents examination. Our journey will begin in colonial times with the foundations of our Constitution, and will continue right through to our present time. While we study parts of America’s storied past, I encourage everyone to think critically about how our lives are affected by events and decisions made throughout our great history.

Exams, Quizzes, and Makeup’s:

By eleventh grade all students should understand that academic honesty and proper test-taking procedures should be adhered to at all times. Cheating and dishonesty will not be tolerated at all. A student with an excused absence will be permitted to take a makeup exam or quiz within one week of the original test date. (Test may or may not be in essay form). Failure to schedule a makeup test with me within the above stated time period will be an automatic 0 grade.

Homework/Classwork:

Expect homework to be given on a regular basis (Usually 10-15 written assignments per quarter). If reading homework is assigned it is essential for you to make sure that you complete these tasks. History tells a story; if you miss something you may be lost.Reading quizzes will be given to ensure that it is being done. At-home research of topics for class discussion will be a regular practice in this class room. Homework will not be accepted late, unless you were absent on the day it is assigned.

Quarterly Grading:

Tests = 50 % Quizzes= 30 % Class work and Homework = 20%
