Reading Strategies

How do we help students become better readers and to reinforce their understanding of the text read?

When reading:

  • Ask questions: who, what, when, where, why, and how
  • Make a connection with the text, self, or world events
  • Discuss a significant word or passage
  • Make a mental picture in your mind of the story elements (characters, setting, problem, and solution)

***It is very important to read to your child, partner read a book with your child, and have your child read every night (chapter books, children's magazines, comics, resource materials).  This will help your child improve tremendously in reading fluency and reading comprehension. READ, READ, READ
